Global Academy, the training division of Global HSE Group, has launched three new fire safety qualifications designed to equip professionals with the practical skills and knowledge needed to ensure fire safety compliance.
Complementing its existing Fire Door Inspection course, each course has 3 days of practical experience and upon completion receive an industry recognised qualification.
The new courses, accredited by the Awarding Body of the Built Environment (ABBE) are nationally recognised and demonstrate Global’s drive for excellence and elevating professional knowledge in the fire safety sector. They include:
- Understanding and Installing Passive Fire Protection
- Understanding, Maintaining and Repairing Fire Doors
- Understanding and Installing Fire Doors
All courses are taught by Chris Sharman, Head of Technical and Training at Global Academy, alongside a team of experienced passive fire protection installers. The course framework has been meticulously designed by passive fire safety experts from Global HSE Group, ensuring a comprehensive and effective learning experience.
Led by Ross O’Loughlin, the Director of Global Technical Services and previously the Chief of Staff of the fire training MOD school, and written by Nigel Craven, who was the Group Manager at West Yorkshire Fire Service.
Ross O’Loughlin commented: “At Global we recognise that the industry, which includes our own people, require a level of competency that can be proven. We are taking the right steps to professionalise an area of construction that has been neglected.
“Passive fire installation is a critical element and if those installers do not fully appreciate the need and relevance of the work, then they won’t take the care and effort required. We wanted to change this across the industry and we’re willing to put in the hard yards to develop brand new qualifications that are fit for purpose and designed with the installer in mind.
“We are proud to have combined our contracting division’s experience and our fire engineering consultancy academic input, to blend an approach to training that delivers tangible competence.”
The Global Academy’s training facility in Bingham has also been recently upgraded with state-of-the-art training equipment, fire doors, passive fire installations and more to support the delivery of these new courses.
