Employees at the chemistry company raised the total through sponsorship after holding their own “Lubrizol Olympics,” which involved them completing the 5,882 miles between Britain and Tokyo in Japan, where the Olympic Games were held in 2021, swimming, cycling, rowing and running the distance, before coming together in a series of joint walking challenges. Lubrizol’s charities and communities committee had set the company a £25,000 target, but staff ended up achieving a significantly greater amount. Committee co-chair Tom Grazier said at a recent charity day held at its HQ in Hazelwood near Belper: “This donation to Mind is our biggest donation ever as a company, by a significant margin. It’s been a huge effort and it’s down to how much time people have given to this, and at the end of the day, how generous our employees have been. “From myself on behalf of the committee, thank you to everyone who has been part of this. It really has been amazing to see what we can do when we come together.” European success for Nottingham PR agency A Nottingham-based PR agency has won the top award at an event to celebrate the best marketing across Europe. The agency delivers digital PR and content marketing campaigns for a range of e- commerce brands including MuscleFood.com and Quotezone.co.uk. They were handed the gong after judges heard of the agency’s growth and its record-breaking results for clients during 2022. During the year Motive’s digital PR team won 14,259 media backlinks for clients which worked out at 40 links for each client per month on average. They helped several e-commerce sites to double organic traffic during the year with many also reporting record growth during that period. The European Content Awards were judged by a panel of marketing experts from across the UK and EU including senior managers from brands such as Microsoft, Virgin and IKEA. In a statement, they praised Motive saying: “This is a small agency with their sights set on big things!” Motive founder Steve McComish said: “We are riding the crest of a wave at the moment and it’s fantastic to share our success with others. Three years ago, we rebranded our agency with a new name, Motive PR, and a clear focus on digital PR and content marketing for ambitious e-commerce brands. East Midlands Business Link www.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk Nottingham homeless to benefit from local man’s Antarctica trip Charities supporting homeless people in Nottingham are set to receive a £5,000 donation from local software firm Ideagen, after one of their employees completed a trek to the South Pole. The money will go to Nottingham Street Aid after Ideagen asked team member, Adam Cooper (47), to pick a charity of his choice in recognition of completing his gruelling Antarctica expedition earlier this year. Speaking about the donation Adam said: “I chose to spend several nights out in the cold recently, some people don’t have that choice. Being able to help in some way is important to me. “I live close to Nottingham city centre and when I heard about Nottingham Street Aid, what they do, how they operate and their long-term objectives they sounded like the ideal recipient for this donation.” Nottingham Street Aid is hosted by Street Support Nottingham, part of an umbrella network spread across over 30 UK towns and cities. Street Support provides information for the public about homeless charities in those cities and how the public can help by donating time, money, or goods. Based at New Life Church, and close to the developer’s head office in Bardon, the foodbank has been operating for roughly 10 years and provides food parcels to local people in need on a referral-only basis. It also offers debt advice to clients, and helps to signpost them to other supporting charities and organisations. Alison Carr, administrator at Coalville Foodbank, said: “We are really grateful for David Wilson Homes’ generous donation, as we rely on donations to be able to keep Coalville Foodbank full of food. “Community support through food donations and funding is so important, as we wouldn’t be able to operate without this support. “We’d like to thank David Wilson Homes for its donation as it means a lot to our organisation and is always appreciated.” John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “We’re thrilled to support Coalville Foodbank at a time where togetherness and community spirit is crucial. “The representatives of the Trussell Trust do an outstanding job in providing emergency supplies to those in need, and we hope our donation will support their admirable work during these testing times.” OUT OF OFFICE www.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk East Midlands Business Link G F Tomlinson supports local Nottingham community with access to central sanitation facilities As part of the company’s commitment to delivering social value, Midlands contractor, G F Tomlinson, has supported Arena Church to deliver sanitation facilities at its Nottingham City Centre premises, which will be open in the near future. The church, which is based on Western Street in the Hockley area, currently provides refuge, shelter and hot refreshments for vulnerable Nottingham residents who need it most. G F Tomlinson has worked with local sub-contractors alongside pastor, Jono Kirk, from Arena Community to convert previously unused space into a shower and washer / dryer facility for vulnerable Nottingham residents to use who lack access to basic sanitation facilities. The vital additions will act as an extension of Arena Church’s mission to ‘Go, Grow, Love and Serve’ in Nottingham City, and facilities will be on hand ready for when the church launches its new ‘Care for a Coffee’ initiative once funding is secured. ‘Care for a Coffee’ will provide warm, safe spaces for vulnerable people to get a weekly hot meal, with an option to clean and dry clothes and make the most of a ‘shower hour’. Cawarden hosts employment event with a difference Ahead of National Careers Week in March, Cawarden employees were invited to bring their sons, daughters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren to a special behind-the- scenes look at one of its Leicestershire sites to provide an early taste of the demolition industry and an insight into what their family member does for a job. The visit to the site of a former leisure centre was led by Managing Director, William Crooks – who is also the current standing president of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC). The children, aged between two and five years old, donned their hi-vis and hard hats for their first-ever tour of a demolition site. During the visit, the children learned about site safety and the reasons why protective clothing is worn on-site. They explored the different jobs and skills involved in demolishing a building and got to meet the site manager, machine drivers and labourers. The importance of recycling building materials was also talked about. And finally The world of Frazer 54 East Midlands Business Link www.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk An unconventional job interview When you apply for your next job you will likely be hoping to land an interview, eagerly awaiting a chance to sit across from your potential employer. But what if this process was much more exhilarating? Four terrified job seekers recently found themselves presented with an entirely different kind of interview, as they were whizzed around Cadwell Park racetrack in Lincolnshire in a BMW at speeds up to 110mph while being questioned on their CVs. The smartly dressed candidates, seeking a sales executive role at a car dealer, can be seen screaming in fear and egging the driver on in a YouTube video, being thrown around in their seats as they attempted to explain why they should be chosen for the job. In a happy ending for the candidates, they were all hired on the spot. The world’s first ‘Poommelier’ Frazer is back again with another incredibly bizarre job listing for Business Link’s dear readers to consider — fair warning, it does involve something rather stinky. A nutrition brand is seeking the world’s first ‘Poommelier’ — an expert in the sight and smells of faecal matter, as it aims to break the poo taboo. Feel Complete is looking for up to five people to take part in Poommelier training, to find the right nose for the job. Trainees will receive £1,500, with one person eventually being given the title of world’s first Poommelier and a role helping to run the business’s online Poo Clinic. Aaron Providence, founder and CEO, said: “Being a poo expert might not be top of everyone’s list, but finding and training the world’s first ‘Poommelier’ is a way for us to take a serious issue like gut health and have a little fun with it. We’re excited to be taking on this project and can’t wait to see who’s up for the challenge!” A witty name may be all you need A competition is underway to find the UK’s funniest small business name, celebrating the wit, creativity, and humour of the nation’s SME owners. It comes as two thirds (64%) of people say they would be more likely to notice a small or local firm with a funny or witty name, while a third (28%) of people are more likely to shop at a small business with a witty or funny name compared to those without. Simply Business recently revealed its shortlist for the competition, with Frazer’s favourite finalists including online equestrian store, Top Of The Clops, locomotive engineers, Leaky Finders Ltd, cleaning service provider, Sweeping Beauty, and tiler, Grout of This World. While being named winner will surely provide a moment in the spotlight for a business, the successful SME will also receive a £2,500 prize! adobe.stock.com/ alphaspirit adobe.stock.com/ Krakenimages.com adobe.stock.com/ fizkes 54.qxp_Layout 1 07/03/2023 09:54 Page 1For All Business Development Enquiries Please Contact Business Development Manager Lara Day Email: Lara.day @ st-connect.co.uk Mobile: 07384 450 701 Visit us at the Lincoln Property & Business Show 26th April www.businessshowsgroup.co.uk 55.qxp_Layout 1 07/03/2023 09:55 Page 1www.oms.uk.com 01530 833 533 info@oms.uk.com Helping you to perform at the highest level OMS have delivered consultancy and training services throughout the Midlands and UK for over 22 years.
