When it comes to the agenda, look to form a balance between giving guests freedom and keeping them engaged with a schedule and variety. Use of technology to help your event go off without a hitch should additionally be considered. There are plenty of event management software options to streamline planning but also for creating interactive features during the event like live polls to boost participation. In the lead up to the event, make sure to promote it creatively. For smaller occasions a simple invitation may be enough, however for a larger soirée you might want to do something louder with emails, ads, social media, blogs, promo videos, adding events to industry listings, getting sponsors and media on board, and encouraging the business’s team to promote the event when visiting clients. Ensure to create a website for the event or a new landing page on your own site and in promotion use the same hashtags and branding across platforms and consistent messaging. After the event is over, there are a couple of final checkboxes to tick off to evaluate your success. A debrief with your team and gathering feedback from guests are important and will allow you to uncover whether the event met its original goals and objectives and if it had an impact on attendees. The lessons learned from this will be crucial to refining your next event. © stock.adobe.com/deagreez © stock.adobe.com/VAKSMANVFEATURES Corporate Finance Relocation & Inward Investment Online Training Energy & Environmental Management Security REGULARS Commercial Property Motoring Corporate Hospitality Watch out too for the latest news from across the region in every sector Next month in May 2024 - Deadline 17th April Visit us at www.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk where you’ll find the latest news as it breaks – and why not subscribe to our newsletters so you can have the latest news emailed to your inboxBuild for the Future: East Midlands 2024 Tuesday 23 April Lincolnshire Showground, Lincoln Build for the Future: East Midlands is back for 2024 and here to connect businesses together within the construction, property, sustainability, heritage, and trade services. And finally The world of Frazer 54 East Midlands Business Link www.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk A new job at the penguin post office If you’re looking for a fresh start, or perhaps to get away from life’s stresses, Frazer has a new career that could be for you…in Antarctica’s ‘penguin post office’! Candidates are required to be ‘self- motivated’, ’empathetic’, and happy to go without showering for up to two weeks. They must also be comfortable with extended periods of time without phone or internet. The Port Lockroy shop is the southernmost post office in the world, but while you may think such a remote job would make it easy to successfully secure, every year the Antarctic Heritage Trust is in fact flooded with applications. Employees will sort post, sell stamps, look after the buildings, run the gift shop, and count the 1,500 gentoo penguins that live in a colony at Port Lockroy. Motivational mess Who doesn’t love a motivational poster in the office featuring a generic phrase and scenic backdrop? Well, perhaps quite a lot of people, it turns out. A new survey by Preply has revealed that 46% of workers are not at all influenced by motivational phrases in the workplace, with 53% of those surveyed saying they would never use a motivational quote in their everyday lives. The research, however, did find that not all phrases are redundant! While “Do the impossible” and “The sky’s the limit” are amongst the least motivating lines, direct phrases like “Keep up the good work” were the most motivating. A generational difference can also be found, with millennials the most responsive to motivational phrases and over 55s the least. © stock.adobe.com/zhu difeng © stock.adobe.com/zinkevych One too many jokes While one may think that having a funny boss is a good thing for a workplace, creating a more light-hearted environment, a new study has found that those cracking too many jokes could in reality be harming employee wellbeing. The research published in the Academy of Management Journal explores how ‘leader humour’ puts pressure on staff to engage in ‘surface acting,’ where they feel they must fake or exaggerate positive emotional reactions and laughter to naff jokes. Through a field experiment, lab experiment, and a multi-wave field study, it was found that bosses who make too many jokes increase the amount of surface acting employees do, leading to emotional exhaustion or burnout, and thus lowering job satisfaction. Fortunately, for Frazer, this does not mean bosses must stop making jokes in the office. Indeed the study finds that when fewer, ‘higher-reward attempts’ at quality humour are made, a positive outcome can be had on employee wellbeing. © stock.adobe.com/ Steve Young01276 456902 sales@frontiersoftware.com www.frontiersoftware.com OFFICES IN AUSTRALIA, INDIA, MALAYSIA, NEW ZEALAND, PHILIPPINES, SINGAPORE AND UNITED KINGDOM Payroll Outsourcing Services Accurate, Compliant and SecureWe have 6 convenient office locations in Mansfield, Sutton, Kirkby, Heanor and Nottingham.
