Paper waste could be further cut with digital event agendas, maps and signage, and not using paper plates, cups, or paper napkins. Forbidding single use plastics from your event is another option, and providing clearly marked waste and recycling bins throughout an event is good practice to ensure it is not making a major contribution to landfill. Meanwhile choosing a virtual event where appropriate means a minimised carbon footprint. Considering transportation, accommodation, food production, and venue energy, running an event virtually significantly reduces carbon emissions from myriad sources. Finally, for gifts and goodie bags for attendees to take away, a key marketing tool, avoid plastic in packaging and the items themselves, and/or opt for things made of recycled materials. This can apply to classic notebooks, clothes, reusable bottles, and other merch. Avoid using any gift that is likely to be used only once or thrown away. As businesses and the public become more eco-conscious, the demand for sustainable events is expanding. There are numerous benefits to holding green events, from lowering your environmental impact and living up to company commitments, to meeting stakeholder/customer expectations and values, improving brand image, and gaining an edge on competitors. With a few adjustments, greener corporate hospitality can be easily achieved, and with all your efforts, ensure to let attendees know about your actions in pre- and post-event communications and share this with a wider audience online. © stock.adobe.com/DrazenFEATURES Agri-Business Spotlight Construction Machinery & Equipment Insurance Logistics Health & Safety Meet The Experts REGULARS Commercial Property Motoring Corporate Hospitality Watch out too for the latest news from across the region in every sector Next month in June 2024 - Deadline 22nd May Visit us at www.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk where you’ll find the latest news as it breaks – and why not subscribe to our newsletters so you can have the latest news emailed to your inbox East Midlands Business Link www.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk Utilising ChatGPT for your Business Thursday 16 May Mansfield Innovation Centre, Mansfield Are you intrigued by the potential of artificial intelligence for your business? However, increasing legislation around biodiversity, deforestation and chemicals will impact on cost, availability and present significant risk to businesses if they do not plan ahead. We remain in a period of unprecedented supply chain disruption and increasing competition for ‘green’ materials and supply chains will ensure this continues. This webinar is delivered by James Butcher, a Nottingham-based supplier engagement and sustainable transformation expert, and delivered on MS Teams. And finally The world of Frazer 54 East Midlands Business Link www.eastmidlandsbusinesslink.co.uk Quit-Tok A workplace trend popular among Gen Z has been found all over Frazer’s social media lately; a form of loud quitting called ‘Quit-Tok’. From funny instances to the infuriating, which will make you gasp at how poorly some businesses treat staff, individuals are sharing their stories of redundancy and resignation, using personal accounts to showcase what they see as unjust or unfavourable working experiences. It illustrates a shift in power within the modern workplace, with employees unapologetically sharing their narratives to demand accountability from employers, even if some instances are being claimed as simply a way to gain social media followers. In numerous cases these clips rightly show up businesses with bad working conditions or company cultures, but with many covertly recording conversations with bosses, it also raises concerns over legal ramifications or future employment repercussions for those telling their stories. Putting businesses and their practices in the firing line, it would be wise for leaders to review their company environment and dismissal procedures, or instead fall victim to a reputation ruining TikTok video. Wining and dining amongst the stars Wining and dining clients has long been a common practice, but now you can take it to new heights — literally! Allowing you to eat amongst the stars, luxury space travel company, SpaceVIP, has teamed up with chef, Rasmus Munk, to float you 100,000 feet above sea level on a six-hour experience with a Michelin-starred meal. Taking place in a capsule lifted into the sky by a space balloon, those onboard will even have access to Wi-Fi — perhaps to catch up on a few emails! The downside is the price tag, which stands at $495,000 per-person. However, a new survey by language experts at Preply reveals that some of these emails are certain to cause eyerolls and annoyance for their recipients. Setting out to discover attitudes towards out of office email responses, the survey found that over half of UK workers state they have received an annoying or inappropriate automated response in the past — i.e. those deemed unprofessional, overly lengthy, irrelevant to work, containing excessive use of humour, or including unrelated personal details. The research also unveiled which phrases we apparently hate to see in these emails the most, with ‘sorry, not sorry’ coming out on top, followed by ‘playing hooky’ and ‘sipping cocktails on a beach’. So, if you are planning to set up an automated response as you take well-earned time off this month, Frazer suggests keeping it simple! © stock.adobe.com/ chathupornEast Midlands Business Link Bricks 2024 A celebration of those helping to create the landscape for the next generation EAST MIDLANDS The prestigious East Midlands Bricks Awards are back for 2024!
